Word Drawings (Untitled 1-40), 2009. Ink, watercolour, felt tip pen, graphite on paper, 76 x 51cm each
These are about beginnings. I am accustomed to beginning with words. Drawing them, I give them a certain physicality. They become words like objects in place of ideas. Simple, multivalent, they tell you things as they are and things that are not. I like what happens when you don’t trust the words, in the juxtapositions.
